July Meeting
Our July Meeting will be at the Elk’s Club. For new members the Elk’s Club is located on Seguin St. across from the Chamber of Commerce/Civic Center.
The meeting room will open at 6:00 PM for visiting with friends and enjoying some refreshment (not necessarily in that order). The meeting will start at 7:00 (if everyone has had an opportunity to get some refreshment). I would like to welcome our new members and I look forward to seeing everyone there.
I want to thank the 3rd Generation and their parents, Chris and Leah Baker, for the great entertainment at the last meeting. I also want to thank all the people who helped with the graduation party for the Summer German Camp
The bus trip to Beethoven was great and enjoyed by all.
Congratulations to everyone with a birthday this month
Since I will be gone for the meeting next month, Chris Baker will be conducting the meeting.
Entertainment for the August meeting will be a magic show.
Hope everyone has a great summer!

Deutsch Sprachkurs
Summer German Camp for Children
Once again our children's language camp was a great success. Our morning class had 16 children who had never taken German. Many of them were very young, but quite enthusiastic about learning a new language. Mary Irwin used many games and songs to reinforce their speaking skills. Brenna and Devin Doster, past students, were very able assistants.
The afternoon class was comprised of 15 older students who had previously been in our beginning class. Frau Maria (Mary) used the computer to bring various programs to this class which enhanced the skills of previous learning. Stacy Koepp and Natalie Miller assisted this group and probably picked up some vocabulary to aid them in their future studies of German.
As in previous years, on Friday, June 18, the combined groups performed songs and dances for their parents and guests followed by a German meal consisting of bratwurst, sauerkraut, kartoffelsalat, und strudel.
We would like to thank all the volunteers who came and helped us set up and, also, we want to thank Armen Wilson for making the kartoffelsalat and Karola LeMieux for making the sauerkraut. Es war viel spass.

4th of July Parade
We will have the July 4th Parade on July 3rd, Saturday. We will meet at St Peter & Paul Catholic Church Parking Lot at 8:00 Am. We need members to come dressed in German attire to both ride on the float and to help decorate it. I look forward to seeing you there.
The route is not long and you can ride some and walk some. It will help give us some exposure to the community and let them know what we are all about. We did this last year and it was a big success.
Come out and help us make this another outstanding event. Thanks in advance!
Ron Evans.

Steuben Society
Prince Solms Von Braunfels Unit
The Steuben Society was formed in 1919, in the aftermath of the First World War, by patriotic Americans of German descent. There goal then as it is now was: “To foster good citizenship in the German-American community, to educate the public and to the positive role our ethnic group has always played in American Society”.
The Steuben Society National Headquarters is in New York; however, they have Units in Florida, Missouri, New Jersey, Washington DC, Pennsylvania, and now TEXAS. To become part of this organization, that promotes our German Heritage, we had 15 individual join. We could call our Unit “the Prince Solms Von Braunfels Unit”. We submit articles about Germans living in Texas to be placed in their publication as well as being mentioned on their Web Site. This helps to enlighten others of the life within New Braunfels and informs others of the German Heritage in Texas. Richard Odorfer has written several articles that have been printed in the Steuben News.
We are currently on a membership drive and would like to invite members of the German American Society to join. The New Braunfels German American Society does an excellent job promoting the German Heritage within Texas and this is a way we can inform other individuals throughout the United States about OUR German Heritage.
Please see Richard Odorfer or Ron Evans for membership information.

Spaßzeit für alle!
(Fun Time For All!)
If you were at the June GAS meeting, I'm sure you had a great time listening to "The Third Generation," or, as we know them, the Baker kids. They did a terrific job playing both patriotic and traditional German music for us. The audience enjoyed singing along, and some were even dancing along, with the music. Thanks, also, to mom and dad, Chris and Leah, for hauling in all their equipment.

Go to 'Photos' for more picutres.
Since our next meeting is in the good ol' summertime, we will be having some good ol' summer fun with an ice cream social. There will be ice cream and an assortment of toppings to make your favorite ice cream sundae. So come on in and cool off with a special summer treat, along with visiting with our German American Society members.
