December Meeting
The next meeting of the German American Society will be Tuesday, December 1st, at the Elk’s Lodge, located on Seguin St. across from the Chamber of Commerce/Civic Center.
The meeting room will open at 6:00 PM for Visiting and Refreshments. Entertainment will start at 6:30 PM with dinner to follow at 7:00 PM. Instead of a meeting, information concerning Wurstfest, Weihnachtsmarkt in Fredericksburg, Wassilfest, Maskenball, and Nomination of Society Officers for 2010, will be covered as members and guests get in the serving line.
Wassailfest
It is that time of year again, only 2 days after our Christmas dinner we have Wassailfest. This means Thursday evening from 5:00 till 10:00 PM we will be cooking and serving pork chops (Schweinskoteletten) on a stick. We only have 3 fund raisers a year and this year 1 of them was cancelled, (Wein & Saenger Fest). Therefore, it is important that we make Wassailfest a successful event. There will be a sign-up sheet for anyone wanting to volunteer. We currently have several members who have volunteered but Wassailfest is
very fast paced and the more help we have the easier it is.
Steuben Society
Prince Solms Von Braunfels Unit
Members of the New Braunfels German American Society founded the Prince Solms Von Braunfels Unit 1845 of the Steuben Society in January 2008. All members of the Steuben Society are invited to our meeting and all of our activities. The Steuben Society is the oldest German American society in America, and our support helps continue our German Heritage in this country. If you would like to join the Prince Solms Von Braunfels Unit
please see Ron Evans or Richard Ordorfer.
Nominating Committee
New Officers
As I have mentioned for the past 4 months, we need volunteers to serve as officers in the German American Society. We have had only 1 person come forward, which will puts us in a very bad position come January. I was hoping that by giving advance notice that we would have some individuals come forward, showing their interest in filling an officer position. This has not been the case. As I have stated in previous news letters, the president-elect has stated that she is resigning, and my term as President is over. After 4 years I do not intend on remaining in office. Unfortunately we still do not have anyone who will accept the nomination for President or Vice-President. As I have stated in previous newsletters, I believe it is the best for the Society to have others fill these positions so we can have new ideas. Anyone interested is encouraged to see David Schoenvogel who is heading the nominating committee.
Maskenball 2010
Again this year we are going to partner with the Elk’s Lodge for Maskenball. It will be on February 13th so mark your calendars. Again we have Kevin, Robert and Group to play. More information will be forthcoming.
Saarlander Helping Saarlander
At our last meeting we had members of this organization attend and they would like to ask anyone who would like to join and wants more information to contact them. You can call (0) 681-9544910 or e-mail: info@shsfoundation.de or www.shsfoundation.de

Bus Trip to Weihnachtsmarkt
Clark Travel has been contracted to take us by bus to Fredericksburg on December 5th, 2009. We will have a sign up list at the October 27th meeting, also at our Wurstfest booth. Members who went on that trip last year enjoyed it so much, and asked that this trip be offered again this year. So please join us, it is $10.00 per person. The companionship and the experience is priceless and a joyful. It is a good opportunity to do some Christmas shopping. Also there are some good places to eat in that town.
The bus will pick up all passengers at 10 am in the Kohl's parking lot. At 5 pm, the bus will load for the trip back to Kohl’s. The trip each way is approximately 2 hours.
If you like to contact me for information and signup, please call: Karola at: 830-899-4453

(Two Indians go to their medicine man and ask: "Can you tell us how this year's winter will be?"
The medicine man tosses a handful of pebbles on the floor and says: "This will be a very cold winter. Collect a lot of wood for heating."
Since the medicine man is secretly not quite sure, he calls the Olympics as a precaution. "Can you please tell me how is this year's winter will be?"
The gentleman from the weather bureau says: "This is a very hard winter! The Indians are collecting wood like crazy!")
